We created visuals with a new look and feel for SmartThings’ section on Samsung.com.

SmartThings is an ecosystem of Samsung devices that bring a seamless, connected and automated way to control the home. These devices ease common chores letting you focus more on your priorities during the day.

When the Client first came to us, they were looking for something new, away from staged photoshoots - something that could display a variety of Samsung SmartThings products in a single image.

Keeping high-end devices fun and vibrant

We came up with a full set of 3D characters (and their pets) - all unique and lovable, in their daily routine using SmartThings devices. The characters and props were designed to give a soft and colorful vibe, and we presented high-end electronic devices without feeling too serious or techy.
We kept the characters realistic enough so they can blend in with the complex renders of the SmartThings products themselves. (Also, the client wanted products to look as real as possible)

Props, sets, and colors were used to bring out the personality of each character. We also gave attention to tactility of objects, adding warmth and depth to each scene. Vibrant colors were used to bring out the playful mood.
We kept the background as solid color blocks, so focus is on the scene itself, bringing a sense of simplicity even in the ones with multiple devices.

There were several options to visualize the multi-device experience of connected products. First we tested using simple icons, and various layouts. The client was looking for something direct and noticeable, which resulted in colorful lines that jump from one device to another.
Character went through a series of transformations, including color hair and wardrobe changes. In the end, everyone’s favorite was the pink haired girl.
